As 2010 draws to a close and 2011 and year of the Rabbit leaps nearer, you are taking stock of the year just passed as well as drafting your 2011 To Do List.  Whether you’ll be staying in Singapore to prepare a réveillon, reminiscent of home, or braving the cold of Calgary or Quebec, you will take the time to start the new year on the right foot.

It’s important that as you write Christmas cards and pack your winter sweaters, you also review the protection you’ve purchased for you and your family.  There’s no better time than a new year to know what you have in place, how well protected you are and how your protection will respond when you need it most.

Travel Top Tip
If you’re travelling this winter season, to New Zealand or Nova Scotia, remember to purchase travel insurance coverage to protect you from ski accidents, slips and falls, travel delays and cancellation.  If you travel more than 3 times each year, consider an annual travel plan for cost savings and convenience.

Home Top Tip
Buying her a new piece of jewelry for the holidays?  What about all the gadgets you’ll be purchasing for him this Christmas?  Make sure they’re insured both in your home and worldwide, so wherever you are, you’re covered for accidental damage or loss.  Heading home for the holidays, it’s also important to insure valuable purchases before you travel!  A policy that offers coverage for newly acquired items can assist with spur of the moment purchases abroad.

Motor Top Tip
Know when your road tax renews and if an inspection is required so that you can align the insurance renewal in the new year with your road tax date to make it a once-a-year job.  Also important to know whether you could save some extra cash by requesting comparative quotes.

Medical Top Tip
If you have coverage with your employer, make sure you know what you’re covered for.  Many company’s insurance renewals are end of year and 1 January, so if you need to make any decisions about purchasing top-up coverage or a private comprehensive plan for you and your family, this is the right time of year to review what you have in place and the level of coverage you are purchasing for the new year.

It’s that busy time of the year when presents are to be bought, you’ll splurge on Singapore’s Sunday brunches and it snows daily at Tanglin Mall.  Remembering to take the time to review your family’s insurance policies will mean you’re not left out in the cold when you need protection the most.

Our holiday greeting, from the advisors at Expat Insurance: we wish all Peace on Earth and the peace-of-mind knowing you have the right protection in place for you and your family.
